Weekend

Another suburban weekend is upon us.

Our family has what I might call a "flexible routine" for weekends  - no two weekends are the same, but all of them have similar ways that they go.

This typically means several things:

  • The lawn needs mowed*, and some other aspect of yard work
  • A Target or Sam's Club run is in the offerIng on Saturday, and church on Sunday
  • Some element of sports or recreation will occur
  • Likely a visit or two with friends  -  either neighbors, or parents/children from our school

Fortunately, the weekend also means there is no homework for the kids, although it does typically involve some element of work for me, and also for my wife Claire.

And, if I am on my game, some blogging.

As I think about our weekends, while I wouldn't say I look forward to them to the complete exclusion of the work and school week - in fact, there is a structure of the workweek that is helpful for a number of reasons - I would say I enjoy weekends very much for reasons beyond simply relaxation.

They offer a welcome change of pace, a time to visit, and a time to think, and reset.

Enjoy your weekend.

* if you are not originally from southwestern Pennsylvania, you would know this phrase as "The lawn needs to be mowed"
